South Sound Proud represents the emotional and intellectual energy that enlivens the spirit of our region. In the South Sound we work together to proclaim our confident authenticity as individuals and as a community. We combine our individual assets and leverage our collective talents to make the South Sound a great place to live and work.

Here are just a few ways South Sound Together members are working together to help make the South Sound even better.

Partnership for High Caliber Sports Experiences and Medical Care

MultiCare announced a long-term commitment to professional sports in the region with ongoing sponsorship of the Tacoma Rainiers (Minor League baseball team), as well as new sponsorships for the newly rebranded Tacoma Defiance (the reserve team of Seattle Sounders FC) and the Reign FC(professional women’s soccer team).

The cornerstone of the partnership will be a MultiCare-operated 60,000 square-foot, best-in-class medical facility that will be attached to the brand-new Cheney Stadium, providing a range of medical services for the teams and the public.

“This is a special day for Tacoma, and speaks to what’s possible with great partners, and we should be proud of that,” said Tacoma Rainiers President Aaron Artman. “We are proud to reveal the Tacoma Defiance brand, and are grateful for the leadership and support that MultiCare has brought to the stadium project and the Rainiers, Defiance and Reign FC.”

An Alliance to Support Behavioral Health

The Alliance for South Sound Health is a joint entity forged between our region’s two largest nonprofit health systems, CHI Franciscan Health and MultiCare Health System. The two organizations teamed up to help alleviate the critical shortage of behavioral health inpatient care in Pierce County. Together, the Tacoma-based companies will open and operate a dedicated Behavioral Health Hospital at 19th Street and South Union Avenue this spring. Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital is a freestanding, two-story hospital with 120 inpatient beds that will provide voluntary and involuntary admissions and focus on general adult psychiatric care, crisis stabilization and outpatient services.
